Jules Burnstein, Volunteer Coordinator | Mass Promise Fellow
Jules joined Science Club for Girls in 2009 as the Volunteer Coordinator through the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship. As Science Club's first Volunteer Coordinator, she worked with former Program Manager / Superhero Kareen Wilkinson to define and outline the responsibilities for the position. She managed every aspect of the Mentor Scientist experience: recruitment, application, placement, training, community-building, appreciation, and exit from the program. Jules also worked with student leaders to found SCFG college chapters at Tufts, MIT, Northeastern and Harvard. Additionally, she was the site coordinator for the Fletcher Maynard Academy school-year programs in Cambridge and the Kwong Kow summer program in Chinatown.
Born and raised in Brookline, MA, Jules attended Brookline High School and then Haverford College, located in the suburbs of Philly. She graduated from Haverford with a B.A. in Philosophy, with a lot of additional coursework in urban education. She is also a part-time teacher for Girls' LEAP Self-Defense, volunteers at St. Elizabeth's hospital, facilitates LGBTQ trainings, and is the founder of the Community Skill Exchange (http://communityskillexchange.org/) in Brookline. In August 2010 she completed coursework for a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management from Northeastern University.
In September 2010, Jules began a post-bac program in pre-medical studies. Working for Science Club for Girls reminded Jules how much she loves science, so she will get her fill of it with Biology, Organic Chemistry, and Physics!
Tenure: August 2009 - August 2010
