Science Club for Girls has expanded!

In the last year, Science Club for Girls has undergone
some memorable changes. Changes that now allow
even more girls in Cambridge the opportunity to
experience free, after school science activities. After
our incorporation in 2003, SCFG has expanded to
serve 7 schools in Cambridge plus a community
church in Newton! Thanks to the support of our
sponsors we've been able to provide science
mentoring and leadership to a diversity of girls from
all over Cambridge. This year, we expect well over
300 students and 75 volunteers to share the magic of
science through our project!

Interview with Mathmetician and Actress, Danica McKellar

You may know Danica McKellar from the Wonder
Years and the West Wing but acting isn't Danica's
only interest. Danica's favorite subject in school was
math. She majored in pure math at UCLA and earned
a Bachelor's of Science in Math. She even authored
an original math theorem! Something that not many
actors can say. Because of her achievement in math,
she was selected to be featured on our web site.

Interview with Dr. Carole Locke and Dr. Timothy Chow

Even after most of the activities at our Community
Event on Nov. 2nd were over, our Media Team Junior
Assistants were still hard at work. They interviewed
two Science Club for Girls' supporters. The Media
Team JA's wanted to know what SCFG supporters
thought of the event. They interviewed Dr. Carole
Locke of Omega Natural Science and Dr. Timothy
Chow. Read what our girls discovered.

Interview with Student Scientist of the Month

Sarah Montero-Elliot is a second grader at the
Amigos school, and has been chosen as Student
Scientist of The Month. The Thing Sarah likes the
most about science club is drawing and painting
things about rainbows. Her favorite experiment in
science club was working with prisms. She has
participated in the Clubs since she was in first grade
(and since the Amigos School moved into the King
Open building.) She is a seven-year-old whose
favorite subjects are reading, writing, and math.
She tells us that she does like science. But, at the
moment, she wants to become a soccer player when
she grows up!
