Be a guest speaker
Our Career Exploration, Leadership & Life Skills (C.E.L.L.S.) workshops for middle and high school students take place after our club programs, typically after 4 p.m., at various locations in Cambridge and in Boston. Speakers often bring a demo or an interactive activity to highlight what they do in science/engineering; or in other fields ranging from financial literacy to time management to conflict resolution. Speakers also talk about their career/life path and invite the girls into a conversation.
Previous experience speaking to youth is not an absolute requirement as we will send you guidelines to help you out! All are welcome but we are especially interested in women and women of color. We will try our best to accommodate your schedule.
>Host a field trip
Invite a group of junior mentors or 5/6th graders to see the applications of science and engineering by arranging a visit that includes interactive activities and opportunities to speak to team members at your company, lab or college.
Host a job shadowing opportunity
Invite 1-2 junior mentors to spend a half or full day with you and your colleagues during spring or winter school break (3rd week in February or April). (CORI check required).
Chaperone a field trip
Low-key involvement! Drive or oversee a group of girls for trips to the museum, colleges or other special events. On-call basis. (CORI check required).

Science Club for Girls is also a member of the Greater Boston Area Girls STEM Collaborative. We will be hosting SET in the City on April 9, 2011 (also) for high school girls and will be recruiting women who can come in and talk about their careers with the girls over lunch, and/or help out with the experiments/activities that will take place at several universities. Become a Fan of the collaborative on Facebook to receive updates.
