Science Club for Girls (SCFG) is required to conduct a criminal background screening on anyone over the age of 18 who functions as an employee or volunteer prior to their having any contact with participants, their personal information, or managing funds. A Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) is a record of all criminal court appearances in Massachusetts for a particular individual, including arrests, convictions, dismissals, and serious violations. SCFG is authorized by the Commonwealth’s Criminal History Systems Board, pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 6, Sections 172 (H), to access CORI records.
At SCFG’s discretion, candidates may be denied appointment due to financial irresponsibility, drug/alcohol related offenses, or other serious offenses or history that would reflect adversely on the organization, its mission or the safety of participants. SCFG reserves the right to deny applicants whose records indicate a history of child abuse, violent crime, sexual crimes, or drug or alcohol related offenses. Applicants may also be denied due to financial irresponsibility and any other serious offense that may affect the safety of the girls in our program.
