Callie Crossley from GBH's Under the Radar radio show interviewed 2 members of the SCFG community on Sunday, October 18th. The segment aired on 88.9 FM from 6:00-7:00PM on 10/18 to kick-off Massachusetts STEM Week.
Callie interviewed Kaelyn Brown—a mentor and former participant in Science Club for Girls (starting when she was just 6 years old!)—as well as Alejandra Carvajal, SCFG Board Member and Governance Chair. The two women shared their perspectives on the impact of Science Club for Girls and the importance of having more diverse voices and representation in STEM.
Kaelyn shared, "I became a mentor to give back to the organization that gave me so much growing up. It was essential and critical for me to have these mentors and invested women who looked like me and who were interested in the things I was interested in."
Alejandra shared, "One of the many benefits of a club like SCFG...is that, without all the voices contributing to the discourse, we cannot solve the globe's greatest challenges...We need everyone to come together and problem solve. Without the representation from girls and women of all races, we're really only having a partial conversation."
