During Massachusetts STEM Week in October, Science Club for Girls' Executive Director, Dr. Bonnie Bertolaet, was interviewed by Mary Blake on GBH about the need to create more opportunities and access for girls and gender-expansive youth from underrepresented communities to explore and pursue STEM. GBH's host says:
"Science Club for Girls' Executive Director Dr. Bonnie Bertolaet says there's a shortage of STEM workers, especially among women, and it is access, not a lack of interest, that keeps these numbers down."
As evidence in support of this notion, Dr. Bertolaet shares:
"Last semester we had a waiting list of over 330 girls and gender-expansive youth with under-recruiting for our programs."
