Angell Muñoz-Morales

Program Manager

Angell Muñoz-Morales is a Cambridge local who has participated in various programs serving underrepresented youth in the Greater Boston area, including Breakthrough Greater Boston and Upward Bound. She also previously participated in Science Club for Girls from elementary through middle school at the Amigos School and later returned as a Junior Mentor at the King Open School during high school. During this time, she also took part in an after-school introductory coding program where her cohort developed an app to help people locate free menstrual products in their community. Angell is excited to return to Science Club For Girls and continue supporting young girls, just as the program played a formative role in her own childhood and career in STEM.

When she aged out of the participant programs, Benisha returned as a Junior Mentor. As she’s shared in interviews and promotional work for SCFG, she felt incredibly grateful to continue being part of Science Club virtually, which gave her the flexibility to stay involved while keeping up with school.

Angell graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Public Health and Health Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is passionate about working with youth and learning more about the systemic inequalities BIPOC women face in healthcare, particularly how these disparities contribute to our maternal mortality rates in the United States.

“My favorite woman in STEM is Henrietta Lacks. I first learned about Henrietta’s story in one of my public health classes in college, and I think that her story should be taught to everyone. I was shocked to hear that her cells were used for years to study the effect of hormones, drugs, viruses, etc on humans. I didn’t even know that her cells were used to create our COVID-19 vaccines. Lacks’ story represents the harsh reality that Black women face in healthcare, where consent is not always prioritized, and their medical issues are not taken seriously. Her story inspires me to make an impact within our communities to prioritize the voices of our Black and brown women.”
